I forgot who I truly am,
I lived a life created to survive.
So many roads and city lights.
So many masks worn.
So many Me’s.
I forgot who I truly am.
Memories of a little boy,
So full of life; big dreams.
Trauma came and changed him.
Little by little his life and dreams
faded away.
I forgot who I truly am.
I looked in the mirror to a face
unrecognized;
Step after step, mask after mask,
Hard work helped tear down many walls.
So one day I remember,
Who I truly am. | MW
