Angela, this is one of the clearest accounts I've read of how the system dismantles a woman's relationship to her own body — and why reaching for validation after release isn't a character flaw but a conditioned survival response. You traced the whole chain: the searches, the dissociation, the pen-pal marriages built in ink and imagination. "She no longer needs to be chosen. She chooses" deserves to be painted on a wall. We publish dispatches from inside a federal women's prison and everything you name here rings true. Thank you for writing it.

This right here: "They are already enough". Mic drop. Knowing you are already enough does not mean that we cannot find ways to be better humans. That is a life-long journey. But we must start with the premise that we are "already enough" or we never gain any ground.

Such a beautiful piece, Angela. Thank you for this!
