STAY WITH IT

Feelings to share as I let go of remorse,
knowing in my heart I am on the right course.
Being the mother, my kids deserve,
is now a role I am ready to serve.
Today we celebrated Michelle Ehler — the first woman at Coffee Creek Correctional Institution to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Portland State University. Michelle graduated summa cum laude to a full house of her fellow students, PSU faculty, ODOC staff and administrators. Most importantly her kids were sitting front and center, cheering on their mom. It takes tremendous work and determination to earn a college degree. Michelle stayed on course, stayed focused, stayed true to her goals, stayed devoted to her kids. She stayed with it. | TDS & DJW
