SELF-GUIDED STUDY DESIGNED TO BRIDGE PRISON WALLS
Bridgeworks Oregon is working with Edovo.org (the free platform on prison tablets) to design and publish resources and self-guided study courses for folks inside and their family and friends. We were inspired by Enrique Bautista, who for years purchased a book for himself and one for his daughter so they could read and discuss it in their visits. We believe crossover activities in the humanities provide much needed shared experiences for everyone — and we feel that is critical to cultivate creative expression for people in prison.
ABOUT THE ANCESTORS: BEST OF ISSUE 1
The editors at Oregon State Penitentiary selected the best work from the first issue of the PonyXpress. This course presents a selection of poetry and prose by the workshop writers, accompanied by prompts to fuel course participants’ journal writing. The Best of PonyXpress, Issue 1 can be read in its entirety on the PonyXpress and is available on Edovo. “The Ancestors” course is designed like the PonyXpress workshops. It encourages self-reflective writing and discussion with a reading partner. | TDS
