Kudos to the journalists working at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution, including our very own Phillip Luna. The team of writers has taken first place in the 2025 American Penal Press Contest for The Echo, EOCI’s monthly newsletter and 1664, the quarterly magazine that circulates throughout Oregon prisons. In addition to being a talented news writer and Editor-in-Chief, Phillip has contributed beautiful memoir work to the PonyXpress, including this recent piece The Worn Road. His work is thoughtful, spare, filled with the kind of insight that stops us in our tracks. In the workshop, Phillip prefers listening over speaking.
