What do I, a contrary misfit bad kid, problem child have to offer the world?
What do I know about the complexities and conundrums of mankind?
And why should I care? All I know is that I do whatever I want.
And what do I want?
I want to lose myself in moments of novelty and excitement.
I want to push limits and break the rules of this mundane existence.
I want to feel a connection with other people.
I want to be loved and I want to be understood.
But whenever these things I want come true, the excitement and connection always fades.
There is so much inside me that is impossible to communicate.
So much that gets smothered by the ways of the world.
If only I had better words to truly express myself.
I have listened for these words, words that cannot be smothered or forgotten.
Words to encapsulate the truest expression of what it means to exist as a conscious being.
Words to teach me to accept the world in all its perfect imperfection.
Words to help me make sense of the ambiguous line we walk, balancing between flesh and spirit.
Over time, what was revealed to me is that the true magic of words lies
much deeper than any special arrangement of information.
Words themselves have the power to transform us, but only when we embody them be becoming the truth they represent.
The three words that taught me this wisdom are very ordinary: Love, Gratitude, Compassion
Three simple words whose power has transformed how I live my life and how I experience the world.
Three words that I connect with through sincere, constant practice, and little by little,
Their truth becomes my truth.
Three words that provide a template for understanding myself and finding connection.
Three words that work together in perfect harmony.
Love is the raw energy, the spark of spirit within our hearts.
When we learn to embody love, we can give and receive it with ease,
Our egos soften and we begin to perceive our interconnectedness.
Gratitude is the key to receiving love’s infinite abundance.
When we learn to embody gratitude, we begin to let go of our judgement
and we can allow ourselves to experience the miracle and beauty of love’s energy.
Compassion is the healing action of love’s energy in the world.
When we learn to embody compassion, we begin to alleviate our suffering
through love’s nourishing wisdom.
I invite these words with their truth and power into my heart each day.
They are the lens through which I choose to view the world.
They have become my truest friends and wisest teachers
They empower me and inspire me to trust in life’s unfolding
I see their reflection in every passing smile and in every act of kindness.
And to my bad kid, problem child younger self, I circle back and say:
Look to these three simple words to guide your journey.
Strive to embody them in your thoughts, actions, and being.
The more energy you give to them, the more they will enrich your experience.
Your Love, Gratitude, and Compassion are the best parts of you.
They are limitless. And the best parts of you are never lost. | IL
