Friendships falter and fleeting they fade
Days go by and seasons are want to change
The hours of a life metered by the grave
A reprieve from that most rueful colonnade
Here we hunger and sorrow to suffer no more
Quarter withheld a blunder of tears fall to the floor
Forget them not wreathes strewn on the floor
Patience the virtuous trait unconsumed
As we part with loves lost in widening ways
Hope is evermore a hand’s breadth away
Fortunes favor the mild all the dead are brave
Time is a handmaiden wringing our sheets
Relationships shed like springtime ice sheets
Calamitous avalanches of trust and betrayal
People can’t live forever, God's fault is not fair
Life ebbs and flows we are all destined to go
The moment we live, we are promised a loss
Spring of life whittled away in winter’s frost
Seeds must die before thrusting through frost
Alone in their mirth not so deeply interred
They will gain wisdom growing in squadrons
Thriving communally in cascading formations
We learn to relate to the newness that's afforded
Making fealties anew that are easily treasured
A familiar in need of a kind heart is treasured
Past all bias a helping hand is vouchsafed true
In defiance of cruel time we reach out anew
Desperation needs unfamiliarity to be welcome
The loss of hope recedes in ripples of loss's wake
Sight of distant communal shore slakes darkest woe
Joy rising, morning sun over lonesome midnight’s woe
Founding friendships from instinct and example
The rush and vigor of new adventures beckon
Abolishing fears finally bias becoming forfeit
The gap is spanned new bridges built from ether
One-mind touches another, psychosocial embrace
Sheets of tears like rain rest in pools on the floor
In heartache of loss new friendships relieve woe
Winter’s frost thawed in treasured human embrace. | JM
