Nature is a small fenced perimeter for me. Inside exists what we’ve cultivated and created. The sand pit is a distant memory now. As we get to enjoy and read our rewards in the garden, I enjoy the wind brushing against my body.
Beyond the perimeter, I see Douglas Fir out in the distance. I long and wish to embrace them. When the wind blows in the right direction, I am gifted with an extension of them — a leaf from some other tree. Kneeling over, I pick the leaf token up. While placing it in my palm, I enjoy the shape and colors. It gets full inspection and appreciation.
I begin to give thanks at the glimpse of a world I no longer can embrace. Only to watch them swaying in the wind, as they wave at me.
Someday, I will embrace them again, giving them thanks for every clean breath I take. | MB
